Vacuum Insulated Pipe for LNG

 

With 25 years of experience engineering and fabricating vacuum jacketed piping systems, Acme Cryogenics offers the Liquefied Natural Gas industry the most efficient and cost effective Vacuum Insulated Piping (VIP)  available.

Vacuum Insulated Piping has been used in the cryogenic industry for over 50 years. Originally developed for the space industry, VIP has worked its way into most liquefied gas applications where maintaining a chilled liquid state is crucial to the application. With heat leak values of up to 20 times more efficient than conventional piping insulation, vacuum insulated pipe returns the users initial investment many times during the life of the system.

In LNG applications reduced boil-off gas (BOG) results in higher LNG flow over greater distances, less liquid losses and/or reduced reliquefaction. These will result in lower overall operation costs during the life of the facility.

In addition to the outstanding heat leak performance of vacuum jacketed piping, installation time and cost can be greatly reduced using the prefabricated VIP sections. Manufactured in sections up to 80’ long making for less field welded joints and only short field joint sections requiring insulation. The use of internal expansion joints can also greatly reduce or eliminate the necessity for expansion loops in the system.

Lower maintenance costs are also an advantage of vacuum insulated piping for LNG service. VIP will generally require re-evacuation once every 10 to 15 years to assure optimal performance. Re-evacuation is as simple as connecting a hand-held vacuum pump to the pump-out port on the pipe and allowing it to pump for 24 hours. Disconnect the pump and it will be ready for another 10 to 15 years.

All Acme VIP is built to ASME B31.3 Pressure Piping code as a standard. Additional requirements such as NFPA 59A can be added to the design, construction and inspection processes.
