Allentown, PA - Frank Hartzell, President and CEO of Acme Cryogenics, is pleased to announce that Acme’s Mitchell Avenue Facility, located in Allentown, PA, has received the Compressed Gas Association’s (CGA) 2006 Environmental Award in the categories of Pollution Prevention and Conservation of Resources. Awards are presented to facilities that have conducted activities and/or projects meeting identified “environmental excellence” criteria.

Acme reevaluated its entire oxygen cleaning process and the associated generated waste stream. The objectives were to maintain Acme’s best in the industry oxygen cleaning, best in the industry product appearance, improve safety for its employees, reduce the use of process chemicals, reduce air emissions, reduce volume of waste water discharge and reduce the amount of solid waste generated at the facility.

Acme’s project included replacing an old fume scrubber with a new modern fume scrubber, elimination of non-essential hazardous materials, and replacement of the existing manual waste water treatment system with a new state of the art automated membrane system.

As an end result, Acme’s new process will reduce water consumption and discharge by more than a million gallons per year, eliminate the use of 2,915 gallons of hazardous substances/chemicals per year, eliminate the use of 650 lbs of hazardous substances/chemicals per year, and reduce hazardous waste generation by over two tons per year.
